The perfect nap

On a beautiful sunny morning, a loud roar echoed through the forest.
Toby yawned so loudly that the leaves on the trees rustled and his whiskers trembled.
He squeezed his eyes shut and stretched his tiger paws far out in front of him.

It was the perfect day.
The sun was shining just right, the breeze through the trees was warm, and the world seemed a little slower than usual.
A perfect day for a nap, Toby decided.

But not just any nap.
No, today he wanted to find the very best spot.
A place that was quiet, soft, and warm.
A place where no one would disturb him.
The perfect nap — that’s what he was after.

Toby wandered peacefully through the forest.
His soft paws left little prints in the dirt.
He sniffed here. Peeked there.

Under a tree?
No… too much wind.
Between the ferns?
Too many tickles.
On a flat stone?
Hmm… too hard.

He wandered on and finally found a sunny spot by the pond.
Warm grass, a soft breeze, and just the right amount of sun.
He turned around a few times, plopped down, and rested his head on his paws.
With a big sigh, he closed his eyes.

...

Splash!

Water sprayed across his face.
Toby blinked and looked up.

It was Quino.
The frog prince stood proudly on his lily pad, holding his twisty twig like a royal scepter.

“What are you doing, Toby? Want to play?” Quino asked.
Toby let out a long sigh. “I’m trying to sleep.”
“Oh,” whispered Quino. “Sorry.”

Toby got up and continued his search.

A little while later, he found a sheltered spot between some bushes.
He snuggled down again and...

Boom!

Roo landed beside him, fresh from a tumble out of a tree.
His fur was covered in leaves and his ears twitched with energy.
“What a day!” he cheered. “Perfect for an adventure!”

Toby rolled onto his back and groaned softly.
“I just want a nap…”
He rolled back over and stood up.
Leaving Roo behind, he tried once more.

He wandered deeper into the forest than he usually went.
There, he found a quiet little corner tucked between tall flowers and moss.
A strip of sunlight — just big enough for him — shone onto the grass.
Soft. Quiet. Smelling of earth and sun.

Perfect.

He let out a contented sigh, lay down on his belly, and... fell asleep.

Softly, Millie walked up to him.
She placed her basket of flowers beside her, gently stroked Toby’s ear, and curled up next to him.
Roo tiptoed in and lay down on the other side.
Quino flopped down next to Roo, still holding his twisty scepter.

One by one, they all drifted off to sleep.
The perfect nap.
Together.
