A day full of adventure

High up in a tree, there was a soft rustling.
Leaves drifted down, and twigs snapped beneath gentle paws.
A small figure leapt from branch to branch.
It was Roo!

He simply couldn’t sit still today.
The wind tickled his ears, and the sun peeked through the leaves.
It was the perfect day for an adventure.

That morning, Roo had crawled out of his little hammock by the open window bright and early,
and hadn’t hesitated for a second before jumping outside.
His fur was unbrushed and his ears still a little crumpled.
No time to lose!

Along the way, he came across all sorts of things.
A snail that had fallen asleep right in the middle of the path.
A butterfly that bounced along with him from flower to flower.
A squirrel hiding its stash of nuts.

Behind a bush, he found his best friend, Millie.
She was sitting quietly among the flowers, her ears gently twitching.
“Millie!” Roo called out excitedly. “Want to come on an adventure?”
Millie smiled shyly. “I’ll follow you for a while. But not too fast!”
“Deal,” Roo nodded, and together they hopped on.

In a sunny clearing, Toby — that lazy tiger — was stretched out in the grass.
His eyes were closed, and his body lined up perfectly with a sunbeam.
When Roo and Millie passed by, he opened one eye.
“Off on another adventure?” he murmured sleepily.

Roo grinned and nodded. “Do you want to come with us?”
Toby yawned. “Maybe later. If the sun decides to come along.”
A second later he was snoring again.
Roo laughed and skipped ahead with Millie. “We’ll save you a spot!”

Farther along, by the pond, Roo heard splashing.
It was Quino.
The frog prince stood proudly on his lily pad throne, holding a twisty stick like a scepter.

“Halt!” he called. “Who goes there?”
Millie and Roo laughed and gave a deep bow.
“It’s just us, Quino,” said Roo.
Quino nodded regally and grinned. “Good. Then my kingdom is safe.”

They stayed by the pond to play.

Roo tried to hop across the stepping stones and landed with a big splash in the water.
Quino laughed so hard he tumbled backward into the pond.
Millie was crafting with flowers and feathers,
and Toby — who had come along after all — flopped down in the grass and immediately fell asleep.

As the sun began to set and the sky turned orange, Roo started to feel sleepy.
Adventures are fun, but now he longed for his hammock by the window.

He said goodbye to his friends and climbed back home through the trees.

And there, tucked into his warm little bed and fast asleep after a day full of adventure,
Roo dreamed of a new friend to share his journeys with.
